Homework

Homework Principles

At Wingfield Academy we offer an exciting broad and balanced curriculum, which is designed to make a significant difference to the lives of our young people.

Alongside the curriculum, we believe it is also important for children to complete high quality and purposeful homework that will enable them to become better independent learners who make exceptional progress.

Our homework strategy provides the opportunity for students to take responsibility for their learning, develop time management skills and become confident, self-regulating learners.

Regular completion of homework will aid students long term memory, deepen their understanding and build their resilience.

Homework Tasks

Depending on the subject, homework is either completed on paper or on Sparx Learning (online platform).

Reminders of the homework tasks are given in lessons throughout the week and are also uploaded to Google Classroom in case students forget. Documents of paper homework are also attached in case pupils misplace their copy.

When children first start at Wingfield Academy, they receive their personal login credentials and create their own secure password for the school computers. These credentials are also used to login to Sparx Learning and Google Classroom. Details of how to access both Sparx Learning and Google Classroom can be found in the Guidance and support section (link to the section below)

Guidance and support- Sparx

Students log in at sparxreader.com, sparxmaths.com or sparxscience.com.

They will need to find their school and then click the “log in to Sparx using Google” button. They can log in using their school email (…@my.wingfields.org) and password.

Every student should have received their school email and created their password. If your child is struggling with this process, please contact the school.

What should my child do if they have forgotten their username or password?

Students can speak to Mr Foster or Mr Wicks in IT support

How can I support my child with their homework?

The best way to support your child is to remind them to complete their homework tasks, and, if possible, provide a quiet space for your child to focus on these tasks.

On the Parent Portal, you can track the homework progress of your child for any Sparx learning your child is using.

Sparx is designed to adapt to each student’s ability so it is important that your child attempts all questions themselves. If they are struggling, Sparx will either provide a video, simplify the question or give them a simpler text to support them. If they are completing the tasks really quickly, Sparx will introduce additional tasks designed to stretch the child’s knowledge.
