The curriculum places a strong emphasis on applied learning. Students learn through realistic vocational contexts that reflect authentic enterprise activity, enabling them to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Core areas of study include the characteristics of successful entrepreneurs, market research, business planning, finance, promotion, risk management and enterprise legislation. Knowledge is developed progressively and applied through coursework-based assessment, mirroring tasks found in the workplace.
A key intent of the BTEC Level 2 Enterprise curriculum is to develop transferable skills that support progression into further education, apprenticeships or employment. These include communication, teamwork, problem-solving, organisation, digital literacy and self-evaluation. Students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning, meet deadlines, respond to feedback and adapt their work to meet set briefs, reflecting employer expectations.
The curriculum also supports students’ personal development by building confidence, resilience and independence. Learners are encouraged to think creatively, take initiative and manage risk, while learning from setbacks and reflecting on their performance. Enterprise projects promote ethical awareness, financial responsibility and an understanding of how businesses impact communities, society and the wider economy.
