Computing

Our curriculum is designed to equip our learners with the skills and knowledge required to access and participate confidently in an ever-evolving technological world. Students begin by being introduced to IT skills required to support subjects across the curriculum and specific to our school network practices but then build on these skills with introduction to programming, algorithms, more complex software packages and an understanding of computer networks. We aim to allow opportunity to explore, analyse, collaborate and present information, whilst becoming critical thinkers and flexible practitioners. This thorough grounding in a world of technology should foster confident, creative and independent leaners prepared for their next educational or employment experience.

Computing and digital literacy are developed across the curriculum.  In Computing lessons we learn Scratch, Python, Binary and explore physical computing using Micro:Bits. Student undertake creative projects as well as learning in cryptography which further enhances their problem solving skills. Skills and knowledge are developed and further enhanced with our spiral curriculum. Our cross curricular approach see’s Algorithms taught through dance, exploration of digital sound and image files though music and art with a view to providing a broad and balanced curriculum across all subject areas. It is recognised that Computing is a key subject area and is recognised as a fundamental skill throughout the curriculum across all subject areas and for future use.
